Auction Site Launched Selling Used Recycling Collection Vehicles

WasteBid.com Press Release
August 29, 2000

(Fairfax, Va. August 29, 2000) - On August 27, 2000, WasteBid.com, Inc. (WasteBid) a local Metropolitan Washington Internet startup, officially turned another corner on its new dotcom site.

Mr. Robert Brickner, Chief Marketing Officer of Wastebid, announced today that "WasteBid has formally started our Auction engine, the first online auction specifically targeting the $50 billion solid waste industry. The system is now available nationally for the auctioning of used solid waste equipment. The equipment on the auction site is available for bidding, by private and public companies, as well as municipal operations around the United States."

Mr. Brickner stated that "we are excited about achieving another advancement of site functionality and this will provide more industry opportunities for others to reuse used equipment that might otherwise be left for scrap salvage in the corner of the original owner's property, or cannibalized for spare parts." "The end of "useful life" for some, is merely the startup years for others. We hope to create national awareness and interest, and eventual sales, in this used equipment area," Brickner said of the WasteBid site.

The initial equipment posted for auction are three used recyclables collection trucks consisting of Mack chassis and Dempster bodies. The City of Plano, Texas owns the vehicles. Mr. Brickner stated, "these collection trucks are in very good condition, have limited miles, and are being offered for sale as a result of the City replacement program involving most of their initial fleet of recyclables collection trucks." Mr. Brickner further stated the minimum opening bid for each of the units has been set by the City at $35,000 and the auction will close on Monday September 18, 2000.

The auction portion of the WasteBid site is the most recent area to be turned-on by the firm. Last week the Government Procurement Services Section was activated and the Waste Generator-Service Providers (haulers) bid for waste collection & disposal services area has been functioning for several weeks.

The unique domain name (www.wastebid.com) was registered in July 1999. In the spring, Wastebid formally opened its Web site to register waste and recyclables haulers interested in qualifying to be Wastebid Service Providers, and generators interested in using the site to secure contracts for hauling and related services. During July 2000, the first full month of site activity, over 25,000 hits occurred on the site.
